Mudlarks
No more road-running for Rosemarie, so limited to trail events only.
Managing training runs up to 10+ miles, but very slow, with frequent walking intervals.
Still, find others happy to go at my pace when I lead a route.

Alec starting to build up fitness again.

30th Jan 2011LDWA event, not a race.
Venue: Amesbury, Wilts
Travelling time: 1hr
Weather: Beautiful sunny day, but cold wind.
Comments: 10/20/30/40k options, we did '20k' but distance was a bit short.
Bit later getting there(8:45) - difficult parking, and very long queue for sign-in.
Mainly off-road, hilly. Juice and biscuits at check-points.
Route way-marked with colour-coded tapes.
Skipped bacon butties at end, to go for drinks w.other NFR at 'Bull'(Downton)+ v.good soup
Age-groups: Not a race, no prizes.
Walked it all (practice for walking holiday)

Pewsey Terminator

27th Feb 201111.8 miles MT
Venue: Pewsey school.
Travelling time: 1 hour 15min; left home 8:15am.
Arrived early enough to park near start at school.
Weather: Chilly wind, sunny first part, then showers.
Comments: Good shoe-sale bargains (£70 reduced to £20).
4 steep 'hands-on-knees' hills, plenty of mud, 2 river crossings.
Special treat this year - the muddy ditch, wading along through thigh-deep gloop.
Even the river crossing not deep enough to wash it off.
Alec went for walk instead.
NFR regrouped at Woodbridge pub afterwards.
Age-groups: Up to v70 for men, v65 for ladies.
Results: Rosemarie 2h:13m:44s (3rd v55)
Chris 2h:30m:01s (1st v65)

West Wight 3 Hills

25th Apr 2011Easter Monday. MT, approx 8 miles
Venue: Freshwater sports centre, IoW.
Travelling time: Left 8:30, Alec drove me to Lymington, got 9:25am ferry to Yarmouth.
Cycled across to Freshwater - about 3 miles, flat route on old railway track.
Weather: Sunny, hot.
Comments: Same route as previously, walked up all hills.
Several NFR runners and supporters.
Age-groups: Up to v70 for men, v65 for ladies.
Results: Rosemarie 3rd v55, in 1h:18m:29s (69th overall, 3 weeks too young for v65)
NFR ladies got 2nd team award (medal).
81 finishers.

King Alfred's Torment

18th Sept 20116.75 miles MT
Venue: Stourhead Gardens (National trust), Stourton, Wilts.
Travelling time: 1 hour 15min; left home 8:45am.
Car parking v.tight, so let us put van in staff car park
Weather: Sun plus heavy showers.
Comments: V.hilly, plenty of mud, v.scenic, v.good.
1/2 mile tarmac at start, then all off-road.
Alec came as chauffeur/photographer.
Stopped at pub afterwards 'Black Dog' in Chilmark.
Age-groups: Up to v60 for men, v55 for ladies.
Results: Rosemarie 1h:11m:57s (1st v55 - surprise!)

Stickler (a.k.a Dorset 3 Peaks)

30th Oct 201110.1 miles, off-road, hills
Venue: Shillingstone, Dorset.
Travelling time: under 1 hour - but left 8:30 to get parking near school.
Weather: Warm, cloudy, not too windy.
Comments: Usual course, not as much mud as expected. Alec walked.
Good run, 2nd NFR lady (just behind Noreen)
Lunch at 'Fiddleford Inn' (good - Ashton's cider, parsnip+chilli soup).
Age-groups: Up to MV60, FV60
Results:
Several NFR runners there; no prizes this year
